Atlantic sea cucumber (Cucumaria frondosa) can reach about 25-30 cm in length and 10-15 cm in diameter. They are generally brown in color but can also appear green, grey, and on occasion white.

A myriad of bio-actives, isolated from sea cucumber such as chondroitin sulfate, triterpene glycosides, lectins, heparin, cerberosides, ganglosides, bioactive peptides, sterols and omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids,

 

Sea cucumber harvest is open year round in Nova Scotia. However, the majority of the harvest occurs in summer and fall.
